Introduction

All India Radio, Raipur was commissioned on 02.10.1963 as an auxiliary centre of A.I.R. Bhopal. 2 nos. of 10 KW NEC make transmitters along with Emergency Studios were installed at 7.6 Km stone on Raipur-Bilaspur road. The Receiving Centre was installed in village Rawanbhatta about one Km. further away on same road and one Km. away on the left side.

The receiving centre has since been wound up w.e.f. Feb. 1993. Later on, the administrative section of the unit was shifted to a rented building in the city. The space vacated thus at X’TR end was utilized for recording studio.

The construction of permanent office building in Civil Lines area was completed in 1976 and 3 office rooms were converted into temporary studios as an interim set up. The main Studios of A.I.R. Raipur started working w.e.f. 02.10.1979. During sixth five-year plan, one of the 10 KW transmitters along with its combining unit was dismantled in 1983 and installation of 100 KW transmitters was taken up.

The new 100 KW BEL transmitter type HMB-105 was commissioned for regular services on 17.12.1984. During the 10th Five Year Plan , this Transmitter is replaced with new 100 KW MW, Make-Thales TMW2100 solid state transmitter and commissioned for regular transmission on 15.01.2008 . The BEL HMB 105 transmitter is being utilized as a standby transmitter.

Transmitters

The Receiving Centre at Rawanbhata has been declared obsolete in 1993. All the equipments and aerials have been dismantled & kept in Transmitting centre. NonExchange line between transmitter and R/C as well as Telephone was surrendered to P & T Department. All the three electricity service connections were also surrendered to M.P.E.B. in June 1999. Disposal of 11.52 Acres of R/C land and building is under consideration with Directorate.

IGNOU Channel Services
Transmission of IGNOU channel began from 1st July 2007 ( 06:00 – 10:00 Hrs. & 18:00 – 22:00 Hrs.). The IGNOU building co-sited with studio premises has been handed over to station on 23.01.2008.

FM Radio Services
Installation has been completed on 31.12.2011 and Vividh Bharati FM Services are being transmitted through this 10KW T/R w.e.f. 1.1.2012. Earlier there were only two transmissions of this service i.e. Morning & Afternoon. Now Evening Transmission from 18:00 Hrs. to 23:00 Hrs. is being broadcast w.e.f. 19.3.2012.

Studio

Type I Studio with the following facilities was initially provided:
1. Music Studio with Announcer booth.
2. Talk Studio with Announcer booth.
3. Read over room.
4. Recording-cum-Dubbing room.
5. Interim Studio.
6. Transmission Studio.
7. M.P. Studio.
8. New Recording-cum-Dubbing Room.

Till 1985, all transmissions were put on air from Talk Studio. In 1985, the Read over room was converted into Playback Studio. Since then Talk and Playback, both the Studios are used for transmission as per requirements of programme. This year Announcer consoles MD83D of Music Studio and Play Back Studios were replaced by Keltron make 12 channel consoles.

After completion of installation, new FM Stereo Studio is handed over on 26.11.2009. The FM Studio has the facility of one multipurpose studio, transmission studio & recording cum dubbing studio. At present these studios are utilized for frecording purposes.

From, 1st Nov. 2004, the Regional News and other programs are being transmitted from CES, AIR, Raipur for the stations of Chhattisgarh state. Earlier for this purpose, leased circuits ( 2 Nos.) were hired from BSNL, Raipur on annual rental basis between AIR, Raipur. The set up and X'TR for Gyanvani channel programs are being transmitted from IGNOU 10 KW FM X’TR installed at studio premises since 12th January 2005.
